Step 1: Acid Stripping Process

As part of the surface preparation on smaller metal items such as alloy wheels, we will chemically strip any old powder or paint using a Methylene Chloride solution. The stripping process on an alloy wheel can take up to 20 mins. After acid stripping and rinsing we “Outgas” the parts. This process involves baking the part for up to an hour to drive out any oils used in the manufacturing process. Oils are more commonly used in the manufacture of Cast Iron or Cast Aluminium.

Step 2: Blasting Process

Once parts have been acid stripped (if required) we then media blast the parts. This removes any remaining paint, powder and surface rust, leaving a bare metal finish.. It also creates a slight texture to allow extra adhesion of the powder. Areas that can not be blasted, such as calliper piston bores or cylinder bores will be masked prior to blasting. We currently blast plastics for local businesses to give them the surface prep they require prior to painting. This allows better adhesion to troublesome plastics that are not usually painted.

Step 3: Powder Coating Process

Powder Coating can be applied to various types of material. Metal is the most common but you can also powder coat wood, plastic, composites, glass and MDF. Most plastics melt when subjected to 200 C for any length of time, so it's important to research your material prior to getting it coated.
