The Powder Coating process can be applied to various types of material. Metal is the most common but you can also powder coat wood, plastic, composites, glass and MDF. Most plastics melt when subjected to 200 C for any length of time.
As part of the surface preparation on smaller metal items such as alloy wheels, we will chemically strip any old powder or paint using a Methylene Chloride solution. The stripping process on an alloy wheel can take up to 20 mins.
Once parts have been acid stripped (if required) we then media blast the parts. This removes any remaining paint, powder and surface rust, leaving a bare metal finish. It also creates a slight texture to allow extra adhesion of the powder.
There are several types of powder in use. The main powders are either an Epoxy, Polyester or Acrylic base. We can change the coating to suit your requirements.
There are literally thousands of colours available! You can have solid colours, metallic colours, candy colours and even chrome effect colours! You can choose from a matte finish, satin finish, gloss finish, vein and wrinkle finishes for texture and grip.
